First off, RUFA is not for the faint of heart! Completing one or more “laps” is extremely difficult, which is a tribute to the challenge of solving the winter pollution problem
RUFA Salt Lake City – Grandeur Peak
Each “lap” starts and finishes in the group campsite in Church Fork. From the start line (5,780′ elevation) the route climbs 2.9 miles up the Church Fork trail up to the summit of Grandeur Peak at 8,299′. Total elevation gain is 2’560. A check-point and small aid-station with basic food items and water will exist directly on the summit. Runners turn around and re-trace their steps back to Church Fork to finish their lap.

RUFA Ogden – Malans Peak
Each “lap” starts and finishes at 29th street Trailhead (29th street and Buchanan Ave, Ogden). Parking is available at the trailhead but we encourage participants to carpool. There is a church at 27th and Tyler Ave that has available parking. Shuttle service will not be provided. Elevation at the start is 4,764’. The route climbs roughly 2300 feet of gain to the top of Malans at 6,904’. Runners will retrace their steps and return to the trailhead for a total of six miles. The first .75 mile is a gradual climb of 300’ right before entering Taylor Canyon. The next two miles quickly become steep finishing off the next 2,000’ of gain to the peak. Prepare for ice and wind depending on the weather. Spikes and recommended once entering the canyon if ice is present.
There will be an minimal aid station and check-in point at the top of the peak. A full stocked aid station will be available at the trailhead.
